Applications of Programming/Scripting Languages

What are the current and emerging programming/scripting languages that are important to DH work? Discussion during this session will focus on topics such as C++, PHP, Javascript, and others – as well as platforms and framworks such as Xamarin, CakePHP, Zend, etc. that are important to DH work. We plan to discuss ways in which these languages are used in DH work, how they are useful to us in professional situations, etc.

Workshop Information: Digital Mapping and Data Visualization

This workshop will be an informal look at digital mapping and information visualization tools. Will spend the first part of the workshop discussing mapping and visualization projects/interests of group members, as well as opportunities the group sees for these tools and this sort of work. After our initial discussion we will work together and in small groups to gain experience with the tools by working with the real problems or issues identified by group members.
Please bring along data/project ideas you want to think about mapping!
Proposed Schedule
- 11-11:30 Discussion of mapping, visualization, and participant interests/projects
- 11:30-11:40 Lightning introduction of Google Maps Engine, CartoDB, and Tableau software
- 11:40-12:15 Working together and in small groups with mapping tools
